In the Still of Winter, Something Stirs

There is a particular kind of quiet that only winter brings.
Here in Australia, June has settled around us like a soft grey shawl — mornings that arrive slow and cool, evenings that call us home early, and long stretches of night that invite a different kind of listening. It can feel like the world has asked us to stop for a while. And perhaps, if we let it, that is exactly the gift.
I've been thinking lately about how much of our lives are spent in motion — doing, proving, reaching, achieving. We celebrate the bright seasons, the ones full of bloom and momentum. But winter? Winter asks something different of us. It asks us to go within.
There's wisdom in the pause.
Just as the dragonfly rests on the still surface of the water — not struggling, not forcing, simply trusting — I believe there are seasons in our own lives when the most powerful thing we can do is be still. To stop long enough to hear the quiet voice inside that has been waiting patiently for us to come home to ourselves.
If you've been feeling the pull of that stillness lately — a longing to slow down, to reflect, to reconnect with what truly matters — I want you to know that this is not stagnation. This is preparation. This is the deep, sacred work of winter.
Light your favourite candle. Wrap yourself in something warm. Take out your journal and ask yourself: What has this year been asking me to learn? What am I ready to release? What is quietly taking root within me?
You don't need to have all the answers. You just need to be willing to sit with the questions.
Because here's what I know to be true: transformation doesn't always look like a grand burst of wings. Sometimes it looks like a woman, alone in the early morning, with a warm cup of tea and a few honest pages — slowly, gently, finding her way back to herself.
Winter won't last forever. Spring always comes. But before it does, there is something luminous available to you right now, in this stillness — if you're willing to receive it.
You are being guided. You are being held. Even now, even in the quiet.
Especially in the quiet.
With so much love and warmth, Sue xx Guided By Dragonflies
